It might be that you have set the output voltage very close to the
overvoltage trigger point and when you ask for more current the voltage
overshoots and then the supply overvoltage crowbars.  The schematic shows
that the overvoltage sense is fixed by a zener diode.  The sense point can
be increased by using a slightly higher voltage zener or by adding a silicon
rectifier in series which will increase the overvoltage point by about 0.6
volts.
You can test this by reducing the output voltage a small amount and seeing
what happens.
