Hello All. I have finished KX1 # 422. Neato little radio. I was the Homer Simpson of Ham Radio along the way at times while building my KX1. The purpose of this posting is to share my troubles and fixes with all who might do as I did.

I will post each item as separate message so builders who are looking for a specific item can find it by the subject line [as I did when I was looking for help].

I was able to align the 20 Meter caps [20A and 20B] OK. the 40 Meter [40] cap did nothing when I adjusted it.

Looking at the schematic... I Figured out that Capacitor C-56 is switched into the tuning circuit by Relay K1 when the radio is set to 40 Meters.

See figure 13 on page 34. C56 is soldered across some pins of the K1 relay. My problem was that C56 was shorted by a microscopic solder bridge across Pins 2 and 3 of the K1 relay. The solder bridge was very hard to see cuz the CAP pretty much hides the relay pins.

Anyways.... I resoldered and viola.... the 40 meter band of the receiver comes to life like never before.

I hope this helps someone. TU es 72 de Rich AE7RW KX1 #422
