It sounds as if you have experienced a long-delayed echo. 

But, then 1.5 seconds is longer than the typical LDE on 80 meters. The
usual phenomenon in that band is via a travel path through the
magnetosphere, and a delay of max 0.5 seconds. See phenomenon no. 1 on
