Bill I can answer the 160m question.

In the early days of radio, broadcasting was from 200m band and below.  Hams
were given everything above 200m in frequency, thus 160m which is our band
closest to the old 200m limit came to be called "Top Band" for it was higher
in the radio frequency band than AM broadcasters and ship operations.
