[Elecraft] crystal oven question

Ron,

Good question! The only answer I have for considering buying the oven
was that is was there. I think that I will pass on this option. I can
see where someone running transverter to transverter to get to the upper
reaches of the spectrum would have a need for the extra stability, but
for casual operation on six metres, I would have a tough time to justify
it.

The comparison with the MFJ-9406 is really apples to oranges; Very
different ways for six metre operation. The only reason for my
comparison is that I already own the MFJ-9406.

Don't get me wrong the MFJ is a fine rig, and I am quite happy with it.
My desire to get an XV50 was to have a single rig for 160 to 6 metres;
Just add a key, mic, and antenna. The high current draw and possible
difficulty of powering it from the K2 internal battery has me
questioning my idea. Yet, having the increased performance and the bells
and whistles of the K2/XV50 are still very desirable.
