Just finished the 30m board and installed it last night, after having damaged a diode and getting a replacement. My KX1 is now 100% complete and working, had my first QSO on 40m this morning with a station in Quebec! (I'm near NYC),
While aligning and testing the 30m board installation, I measured the idle current draw with the LED out at 40ma, using an old Simpson analog meter. This is somewhat above the 34 - 37 ma specified in the manual. Should I be concerned by this?
I also noticed something else interesting, and wanted to see if anyone else had seen this. When I completed the base radio, with the ATU installed I was getting about 3.5 watts into a dummy load on 40m, and a little less, about 3.3 watts on 20m, using a regulated 13.5v supply. This was just about 0.5 watts less than with the ATU out.
Having installed the 30m board and realigning everything, I am now getting these outputs into the dummy load, with the ATU enabled:
40m 4.1 watts
30m 4.3 watts
20m 4.0 watts
Also, I got a lot more well defined peaks while aligning 20 and 40. after putting the 30m module in. And, I think my skin is clearer... That 30m module is well worth it!
