Jim,
Before blaming the microprocessor, please check the voltages at the gate of
Q4. This is the actual RX signal from the microprocesor and should be 5
volts during receive. By contrast, TX at the gate of Q3 should be 0 volts
(or very near that).
If you are showing 5 volts at the gate of Q4, that should turn the 2N7000
JFET on and you should find 0 volts at the source and drain.
Next check the base of Q2 - should be 7.3 volts during receive and the
collector should be at 7.5 volts - emitter at 8 volts.
If you do have 5 volts at the gate of Q4, and 8 volts at the emitter of Q2,
your problem lies in Q2, Q4, or the 2 parts of RP1 that are connected
between them.
