I finally called in the calvary and talked to Scott. Scott noted all the
tests and said he would have Gary call me. Within just a few minutes Gary
was on the phone and we discussed the problem and the way the PLL circuitry
works. My concerns about the 12 DAC not doing its thing were unfounded. It
does not even come into play until after VFO linearization. The DAC gets it
information from a look-up table that is created during VFO linearization.
Until that is done the VFO will increment in 5khz steps.
The solution for not being able to achieve 6.0V at R30 was to add one turn
to T5 making it 17 turns. During the conversation Gary mentioned I might try
adding 10pf or so in parallel with C72. On 4000MHz with the added turn I had
8.6V at R30. Big change. I backed this down to specifications, 6.0V and
switched to 40M. Way too much on 40 and on a couple of more bands up the
scale. Slipped the readings using L30 and everything is within spec across
all of the bands.
I cannot find words to tell how impressed I have been with the Elecraft
troops. Wow! Have run into way too many 1-800-WE-DONT-CARES, Elecraft is
most refreshing.
Thanks Everyone for all the input.
