Don't run too fast to sign-up, Steve, this 'oppression' is becoming =
world-wide.

Our DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) has put the screws to =
heavy metals in at least one state: California, and is working on the =
rest of them as we speak.

I'm in the anodizing business and we have to account for all the heavy =
metals in the wastewater on a monthly basis, lead being one of them.

Go over the limit? Fines, more paperwork, more weekly testing and more =
fines. And We're not even in California!

We are seeing companies in Europe sending product to the states =
(especially Chromium conversion) as it is cheaper for them with less =
hassle.

For us to send a 275KG drum of any heavy metal waste: lead, nickel, =
chrome, etc., to a hazardous landfill costs well over US$1000. In 1982 =
this same drum cost only US$150.

The lead-based solder will be gone shortly from the universal market =
place. You may find some Pacific Rim lead-based solder available =
stateside, or in the UK, but the vendors will have to pay greatly for =
stocking as it is, or will be, a hazardous product. And you'll pay =
more. If it's in their warehouse, it must be claimed (in the states, =
anyway).

Stock up, guys...The writing is on the wall.
