[Elecraft] Demagnetizing Tools?

Hi

Its been a long time for me also. I think the transformer in the Weller =
gun has a primary wound on a steel core and the secondary is one or two =
turns of very heavy copper that connects to the tip holder. This is a =
step down transformer with about 2 volts at 50-70 amps output to the =
tip. As I remember it the largest field is near the transformer not near =
the tip loop. I no longer have one so I can not go out and try it. =
Anyway it will demagnetize a screwdriver.

  It's inside the same transformer turn whether in the loop or next to =
the
  gun, so I doubt there would be much difference (although it's been a
  long time since I studied this stuff).
