Hi Robert,
I have taken my K2 on quite a few camping trips. I do not abuse it, but I
don't take special care, either. It has had a few drops of rain on it, it
has even been in some light snow flurries in the mountains with no ill
effects. I do not use a padded case, I just put it in a big box with
antenna, meter, key, slingshot, tools, etc. then drive up rough 4x4 roads.
Even so, there are no scratches on it, owing to the excellent paint job that
Elecraft puts on it. I obviously would not want to dunk it, but if it is in
a properly waterproofed box, I would not hesitate to take it on a canoe
trip.

The rig also holds up well in temp extremes. In the morning, the temp may
be around 35 deg F and by afternoon, in the high altitude sun, the case will
be too hot to touch. Despite this, there is no noticeable drift, and the
display remains easy to read. (I did install the BFO mod and the PLL temp
comp kits...).

Enjoy the outdoors with your K2, I sure do!
