It is possible for the ridge on the bottom of the crystal can to touch =
one or both of the crystal pads shorting out the crystal if it happens =
to touch the inside pad. I had to lift the crystal about 1/32 inch off =
of the board

  Hi Gang,

Any experience with the XG1? What a simple circuit board and it's =
not
  working.

If the xtal is mounted per the picture on page 6 of the instructions =
and
where the instructions say to ground the xtal case into one of the =
square
holes near BT1, then this all seems not very correct. Either that or =
my
xtal has the nomenclature printed in reverse on the xtal case.

Anyway, I solder the xtal leads into the square holes right there =
where it
says X1 and ground the case via a ground plane hole near the on-off =
switch.
The green led will light up and there's 1.22 volts on C3, yet there's =
no
signal into the receiver or into the MFJ frequency counter. This is =
at 1 uV
or 50 uV. All tests confirm the correct voltages where noted.

In the initial test section page 3: Step 1. says set S1 to OFF and =
set S2
  to 1 uV position.
Then Step 2. says set S2 to 50 uV position. What?

  Any ideas?

  73, Joe, aa4nn
