I'd like to see a KX1 case that completely eliminated the space wasted
(IMHO) by the internal battery holder. Think how small the KX1 would be
then! I'd also like to see a clamshell cover that would protect the
controls, and provide a storage location for the paddle.

I am firmly against all internal power batteries in any rig that I own,
having tried the KBT1 for 18 months in my K1 before removing it permanently.
External batteries are much easier to swap or charge, and can consist of as
large or small a cell size and as varied a cell technology as one could
conceive. There's never a problem with cell leakage on circuitry

With regards to the SSB issue, I *personally* wouldn't care for anything
other than just plain CW only in a QRP portable rig. For that matter, I
don't really care for my portable QRP rig to provide much receive coverage
outside the ham CW bands. I save SSB operation for my ancient
battery-powered (12v deep-discharge) TS-50S back at "base camp."
