Hi

No, but some people need more output for mobile or high noise locations =
like outdoor use. Also some prefer a front firing speaker. The speaker =
on the top can be a problem if you want to stack a transverter on top of =
the K2 in that the speaker is blocked. In these cases you may want to =
have an external speaker and in some cases an external amplifier. For =
most in shack use the internal speaker is fine. One thing you can do if =
you have split your K2 and KPA100 is use the speaker in the remote =
KPA100 if you are stacking transverters on top of the K2.
