[Elecraft] KX1 battery options

After reading some of the recent posts about different batteries for the
KX1, curiosity got the best of me and I discovered that a 3v lithium 123
cell is exactly the same height as the AAs in their holder. They are about
2/3 the length (17 mm dia x 34.5 length). Four of them in series would
deliver 12v at about 1500mAh. Each cell weighs about 16 grams. Jumpers
would need to be soldered on each to connected them in series. I use these
batteries for all my LED flashlights and get them in bulk. The last lot of
20 cost me $25.00 from Botach - a lot less expensive than AA lithiums.

The challenge is to figure out how to mount them without adding any height.
Hot glue along the side of each cell is one idea. Any other ideas would be
greatly appreciated. I am about to order a spare case bottom for some
experiments so as to leave the current one "un-doctored". Elecraft sells
the case half for $14.67 and the battery connector for about $.50.

Can't remember when I've had more fun with a radio.
