In my humble opinion, the KX1 is not a KX1 without the KXPD1 paddles.  If
you are using the KX1 as a "trail friendly radio", the KXPD1 is a must.
Bringing along some other key or paddle and associated cable/wireing kind
of blows the KX1 synergy/ergonomics.

Before the weather up here turned arctic, I spent several afternoons
sitting in fields and forests with the KX1 on my knee.  The KX1 with it's
matching paddle is well suited and very comfortable on the knee.

That said...  The KXPD1 takes a little getting used to.  I would rather
have a little more tactile feedback but... given the portability,
compactness and usability of the entire package, the KX1/KXPD1 is a giant
step forward in the Amateur Radio out of doors arena.
