The FL1 filter using OP1 filter is always used for SSB transmit
and you likely have it set to emphasize the lower frequencies for your
voice.
The SSB Adapter manual notes that FL2 is usually used for receive.
this is because the setting for FL1 may not result in the best
intelligibility. Setting the bfo on receive to cut some of the low
frequencies can result in better copy even without the DSP. Try
setting up a filter or two using the OP1 filter, at bfo settings that
favor higher frequencies. The crystal filter removes the offending
rumble and noise which would affect the AGC. In this it has the
advantage over the DSP filters. The noise reduction seems to work
best without reducing the bandwidth with the DSP filters very much.
The notch works very well with the noise reduction if you need it.
I find that it is best to tune in the station with the noise
reduction off. When conditions make copy difficult switching on the
noise reduction can work wonders as you have found. =20
