This problem is really quite simple as is most of life's decisions. For
every action there are consequences. You weigh off the pros and cons of a
given decision, make your choice and then live with it.
If you are unable to handle SPAM yourself without using one of the heavy
handed services that generate the kind of crap Eric mentions then you need
to give up the list. If the list is more important, then you need to handle
it yourself. It really isn't hard, just engage your brain and think on it.
I run a Mac with OSX, I use a Bayesian filter based piece of software called
SpamSeive. After the first two weeks of use it required me to spend at most
about five minutes a day looking at messages and training it. After four
weeks I spend about two minutes a day eyeballing the 'junk" folder and
relabelling false determinations about one or two every other day. There are
equivalent pieces of software for Linux and Windows. It doesn't matter what
emailer you use the spam blocking software is there and will work with just
about any of them.
Personally, I ignore any email verification request. That individual is
simply off my email list. I even trained Spamseive to send such requests to
the "junk" folder. If you are too lazy to handle Spam yourself without
imposing on everyone else, I can live without your eWords-of-eWisdom.
For whatever my three cents is worth ...
