Today I got "ultimately lazy".  Since I have a triband UHF-VHF antenna 
extending 40 ft in the air on the roof, and coming into the living room, 
I decided to see if it would load with the KX1 with the coax center and 
shield tied together and fed as a wire against the counterpoise in the 
house I have been using..

Good news:  Worst SWR is 1.1:1 on any of the three bands.  No on-the-air 
results yet (another project intervenes), but this is promising.
