[Elecraft] KSB2 bandwidth - 1.9 kHz?

Not ALL K2's with older crystals had narrow bandwidth. What Wayne/Eric
discovered as more and more SSB modules were placed in use was that =
there
was still too much variation in the crystal parameters to ensure a =
bandwidth
of at least 2 kHz. A SMALL number of the SSB modules had crystals whose
parameters combined to produce a bandwidth of only 1.9 kHz or - as in =
the
case of my SSB module - a lot less. (I think mine was closer to 1.7 kHz =
if I
recall correctly).=20

That caused them to reassess the specifications and tighten them. But it
does NOT mean that all of the early crystal sets shipped had too-narrow
bandwidth by any means. A lot of ops chose to put in the new crystals =
"just
to be sure".=20

It sounds like you were in the majority of early purchasers who got a =
good
set of crystals, Julian!=20

The KSB2 in K2 #392 has the original crystals, and therefore presumably =
the=20
1.9KHz bandwidth (though I've never tried to measure it.) I have often=20
received unsolicited reports of outstanding audio with it, and having=20
monitored the audio on another receiver I would agree with that. It is=20
clean, smooth, has plenty of punch with 3-1 compression, and is just =
what=20
is needed for QRP operation. I have often considered that the K2 running =
10=20
watts on SSB has been as effective as previous radios I have owned which =

could run 100....
