Amateur radio was well represented at the Museum's Science and Technology
Days. During my turn at supporting the exhibit, I brought along my newly
completed KX1 and connected it to a 20 meter Hamstick mounted on the roof
-- about 50 feet up. Using an amplified speaker, folks were able to listen
to QSOs with stations all over the country.
The reactions were very interesting...
One knowledgeable observer noted that it (the KX1) was a neat keyer, but
wondered to which transmitter it was connected. I told him that this
"keyer" had a built in transceiver.
Others were fascinated that we could do anything without a satellite.
Most were intrigued about the use of the Morse code. and could easily
relate to the value of a portable shortwave transceiver when all the
infrastructure began to fail.
It was a fun rig to show off...
