I agree with all of Don's comments.
I also have installed the 2.2kHz filter width and like it very much.

The installation difficulty of the gain modification is not changed with
when you perform it.  The only extra work is removing the panels and that
you will learn to do often any way.

One word of caution, be sure to purchase the transistor for the gain
modification in a plastic case.  Otherwie it will be nearly impossible to
ensure that you do not short the case to something.
