[Elecraft] Use-Model of the KDSP2

Admittedly, at this late date I'm just starting to learn the intricacies of
the KDSP2, but I am surprised that "BYPASS" is not a selection from the AFIL
button (as in, four settings plus "none"), versus a set-up function in the
DSP menu.
I've always considered a DSP a tool to invoke when I need it, and not
something to leave in line all the time; I notice too much of the DSP
"artifacts" and if I don't need it, I'd really rather not have it in-line.
Am I missing something here? Is there a quick, one button method to put the
DSP in line, and then back out? Did I read that the new firmware upgrade
might have this?
A thought...
This may be blasphemous (remember, I was a field tester, so cut me some
slack), but have we probably gone as far as we possibly can in "burying"
functions and set-up in 15 key pads and a dial? Does the PC
interface/software allow you to manage this better? Is it a side-effect of
pushing 40 (and being a ham for 25 of them) that you start to miss having a
dedicated dial, switch, or button for each setting and function? Is it bad
that if I don't use the rig in a week, I have to pull out the manual again
to re-learn it. :-)
