need?"

Because clicks are inherent in all unmodified K2s (including yours), you
really DO need it!
The K2 and most other rigs type-certificated by the FCC have key clicks
to some extent. Yaesu's FT-1000 series is the worst, followed by the
Omni 6+. The K2 is in third place, followed by the IC-756Pro2 using
Icom's default menu rise time setting. These ratings are my own personal
opinion (I've checked them all here).
The point is, even though these rigs are FCC compliant, they still have
clicks when unmodified.

"If it were that big of a problem, I'd think that Wayne, Eric and the
people at Elecraft would admit there was a HUGE problem and be handing
the parts out to fix it for free just like any other respectable
company."

As much as Elecraft bends over backwards to satisfy their customers, I
feel that most of us can understand why they cannot and should not do
that. Unlike Yaesu, Elecraft has shown enough concern to develop a
modification to make the K2 a cleaner rig.
Let your conscience be your guide on whether you can live with your K2's
clicks or not.
