Brian:

I solved the problem by putting a piece of electrical tape over the hole for
the screw and then  poking a hole in it for the screw to go through. Then I
tightened the screw and trimmed the excess tape off with an xacto knife
blade. The problem is caused by the counter sinking being to deep and
allowing the screw to short out to the metal tab on the rf output
transistor....  I have also seen this to cause a arcing sound in the
receiver when you flex the chassis because  the screw makes and breaks
contact with the transistor.  I have seen this is in both the KX1's I worked
on.
