Hi Dick and all,
I notice the same thing on ten meters this weekend. I use K2 # 1247 with DSP and 400
Hz IF filter and call all the stations who are banging away on ten meters. It is
amazing how some fellows running KWs come back even though they are weak, while
others just keep calling CQ. I am sure background noise level makes a big difference.
A little power line noise or computer garbage goes a long way in covering up weak
signals. Living out in the country really helps. A good receiver and RX antenna does
also. It sure is fun guessing who will hear my 5 watt MOJO rig!
I just received my crystal kit to closely match the K2 CW and SSB filters on K2
#2 sn 915. I checked the crystals on a network analyzer to see how closely matched
they were. I measured them using an S11 measurement and looked at phase. (The phase
shift is drastic at resonance.) I got seven crystals all at 4913.699 . Six crystals
were at 4913.675, and one loner was at 4913.575 kHz . I guess I shouldn't quibble
right?
