Not having control over transmit mode independent of the key line means I
have one rig in a two radio station which cannot interface with the hardware
I have put together that handles switching me (key, mic, PTT) between them
& makes sure both amps are handled properly.

Without normal PTT function in CW, a K2 cannot be used with the lockout
circuitry for when two operating positions are used on one band.

This is what some people do with their radios.  Others might just plug in
paddles & an antenna.  The K2 is getting quite a bit of attention in the
radiosporting world & this is a strange feature is a real problem - PTT is 
a basic
interface that radios ought to have.  And it could be so easily solved & still
satisfy the segment of the market which sends CW with their mic buttons.

It would also be nice to be able to actually do something with OP2, etc.
