[Elecraft] k2dsp operation

Hello Karin,
This is definitely not normal operation. Particularly in LPASS mode, you
should hear virtually no difference between the "C" and "c" settings;
the differences become more pronounced at the narrower filter settings,
but even there, they are fairly subtle.
It sounds like one (or more) address lines on your DSPx module (the
small piggy-back board) may be either open or shorted. It's also
possible that one of the connections to the socketed chip may be failing.
If you're very comfortable with removing, and inserting firmware chips
into sockets you might want to try the following. If not, then I'd wait
to hear from Lyle Johnson who designed the KDSP2, to see what he
suggests. As a first step, I'd suggest removing and re-installing the
chip in it's socket. Note the orientation of the chip before you remove
it, although it's 'keyed' by virtue of one of the corners being
flattened rather than pointed. Then carefully remove the chip by gently
prying alternatively between to opposing corners, which are accessible
via two access slots at two corners of the socket, until the chip pops
out. Of course, use a static wrist strap, or touch a large metal object
before attempting to handle the DSP boards. Then, carefully re-insert
the chip back into it's socket. Again, I wouldn't attempt this unless
you are very comfortable working with these types of sockets.
