[Elecraft] S/N 4016 K2 started

In a couple of months I celebrate 40 years as a licensed ham.  What better
way to mark this anniversery than to embark on the construction of my
K2/100.  The last ham radio kit I built was a HW-100 back in 1968 while I
was in college.  Kits and technology have sure changed in 36 years.  I
haven't been active for about 7 years since moving here to Michigan and have
decided to replace my old ts430 which I have had since '84.  I researched a
lot of radios and settled on the K2 and it has been keeping me busy on these
cold Michigan winter nights.  At 56, my back hurts and my eyes get weary
after a couple of hours of inserting resistors and caps, but is has been fun
so far.

I have completed the the kit up to the first smoke test and everything works
except the sidetone test.  I can hear the sidetone at a low level but the
tuning knob does not change the audio level (but does change the freq).  I
checked voltages on the AF amp U9 and the DAC U8 and it all looks OK.  Any
suggestions?

I am looking forward to getting this rig on the air soon and especially on
my favorite band- 160M.
