In a word - DON'T

Flux cleaners can cause more problems than the flux itself.  The residue can
seep into sensitive areas like relay points and switch contacts and cause
undue headaches.

OTOH, I do it myself on occasions when I have to clean up a mess, but I
restrict its use to a small area.  I use Everclear - get it at the liquor
store - I find it is cheaper than other high grade alcohols.
