[Elecraft] Recommendations for K2 Software?

Hi John - I've had good success with XMLog (http://www.xmlog.com) . It is a
freeware program (really should not be - don't know how Mike does it) that
is a very nice log program with award tracking, can track qsls and even
prints them if you want or prints labels, etc if you want, has telnet, etc
to internet and tnc dx clusters - even has voice announcements of the
incoming dx (I really like the voice feature - it announces the stations
call sign, band and mode- or you can have it announce using cw - you don't
have to stare at the window all the time to see what is coming in - go about
your business while it tells you what you want to know!) - click to stations
announced (filter for those you are looking for is also available) and
displayed on band maps. Programmable cw send keys, etc. But - there is
always a "but" - it is not really a "control" program. While it does
control the K2 (and quite nicely) as far as setting to frequency and mode,
it does not give you the ability to set the preamp on/off, actuate the NB,
etc, etc so if that is a major part of your requirement, it is likely not
for you. For me, I like controlling the rig at the rig - I've used most of
the "control" programs and just don't enjoy operating the rig from the
computer. The program is fast and does not take up much room. I've tried
some of the "mega feature" "suite" programs but they are much to slow for
what I do - and that is primarily DXing and quickly jumping frequency and
mode while doing so.
I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions - particularly if you are willing
to pay for a program. I've played with MixW (http://www.mixw.net/) for the
trial period an it is simply amazing at deciphering all the digital modes
without any additional hardware! YMMV Have fun es gud dx 73 --don n4hh

> 1) LogKeeping (w/awards tracking) that would suck info from the radio
(freq, mode, time, etc)
> 2) Control (local, not across net)
> 3) DX spots (w: "click to" functionality)
