[Elecraft] K2 Speaker Fuzzy

The K2 speaker magnet is heavy enough to actually bend the frame if the =
kit
is dropped during shipment. I had one of those and so did a few others =
over
the years. We carefully did NOT over-tighten the screws, and seeing how =
easy
it is to bend the frame straight it was pretty obvious that good whack
during shipment could have done it. A bent frame can cause the voice =
coil to
rub against the side of the opening for it inside the magnet.=20

What I did to repair mine was to use a large blade screwdriver that I =
could
place between the edge of the magnet and the metal frame behind the cone =
to
apply pressure on the magnet by turning the screwdriver (the blade is =
wider
than the gap). Working my way around the cone while listening to the =
buzz, I
twisted LIGHTLY (so as to NOT bend the frame permanently) until I found =
the
spot where the buzz disappeared. Twisting a little harder at this point =
put
a permanent bend in the frame to straighten it.=20

It's been over three years since I did that with absolutely further
problems.=20

Sometimes when you tighten it too much, the frame of the speaker gets=20
warped and the cone rubs against the frame. Try loosening it a bit, and =

if that doesn't work, remove the speaker and see if it's warped. Maybe=20
you have to bend it a little to straighten it.
