[Elecraft] K2 varactor diode installation?

Ted,
The K1 manual is more specific on this. Quoting from page 28 of the
current K1 manual:

"The 1SV149 doides may have a third lead in the center, cut off near the
body. Mount them slightly above the board to avoid letting this lead
short the two pads together."

I think your OK in mounting the diodes with 1mm of clearance from this
center lead to the circuit board.

[Elecraft] K2 varactor diode installation?

Hi folks.
I'm mid-way through Part II assembly (the RF board) for K2 3854. I'm
concerned about installation of the1SV149 varactor diodes. These have the
center lead clipped--but I notice this lead is not cut flush and projects
a bit from the diode body. The instructions call for these to be pushed
all the way down onto the board to prevent stray signal coupling. Does the
c. 1/16" gap due to the projecting cut-off lead cause any problem. And
more importantly, does this cut-off lead, pressed against the board, have
any potential to cause a short between the two solder pads of each diode?
Should steps be taken to "reduce" these cut-off leads somehow? Should
these diodes indeed be pressed against the board, and is there any way to
check for shorts after installation? My thanks for advice, and my
apologies if this is an issue which has already been addressed. Glad you
folks are there!!
