[Elecraft] Need some help --- a plea from 'Down Under'

Scenario:-
K2 / 4313 Alignment and Test Part #1.
1) Last item on page 42 --- everything per the manusl except the Pre-amp annunciator is also displayed.
Pre-amp and Attenuator toggle OK but Pre-amp annunciator always present upon 'switch on' regardless of setting at 'switch off' --- is this a problem?

2) All OK through page 46 up to 'Audio Amplifier and Tone Generator Test' --- NO SIDE TONE!! --- referred to 'Appendix E' page 12 --- could not detect any signal at pin 25 of U6.
Looking for advice on the least destructive way to proceed.
