The ARES standard is as Stan has described.
http://home.comcast.net/~buck0/app.htm

The Utah RACES/ARES group actually was using the reverse, BUT has changed
all of their PowerPole connector orientations to
match the California and ARRL standard for usage of this connector. Why do
I mention Utah? they started the usage of the connector !!

Correct orientation DOES matter for interconnections to other amateur
equipment (WestMountain, Saratoga, emergency equipment)

Fernando, your connector shells look reversed from the way I have
mine. But the good news is, all you have to do is reverse the way the shells
are put together. Take the two shells apart from each other and put them
back together with the Red on the right (as viewed from the back of the
connectors). Your picture shows red on the left, if you were looking at them
from the back of the connector.
