Mike,

Back a bit before your time, around 1958, I was a new ham (KN8LOT/K8LOT)
and mowing lawns and shoveling snow to scrape together enough money to buy
my Heath equipment (DX40, VF1, Sixer, etc.) I grew up in Kalamazoo. My dad
was nice enough to drive me 40 miles to the Heath factory store in Benton
Harbor so I'd save the shipping and wouldn't have to wait for the kits to
arrive.

I have returned the favor to a degree by letting my daughter build a K2,
which came out perfectly. She was 14 at the time, and a ham --- W2YL.

You brought back a nice memory. Thanks. 73 de Brian W3BW

While I was at Heath (68-74) the company routinely sold a hundred or more of
each transceiver every week, with the SB-series being the most popular.
Although I wasn't directly involved in the $$ end of the business - I was a
copywriter in the Advertising department and wrote the Heathkit catalogs and
ads - I do know that the ham lines were generally extremely popular and
quite profitable for them. thanks for this great list. And keep it up
Elecraft!
