I use a variation on the old Heathkit cardboard box that takes up less
space and makes it easy to put things away between work sessions.

I cut strips of corrugated cardboard box about an inch wide. I then
staple the strips into a file folder. You can have several rows for
each folder. The leads of the components are pushed into the row of
holes in the edge of the cardboard strips and the value is written on
the cardboard strip below the component. As long as you keep the
folder upright or flat there is no problem with things falling out.
If your storage is not upright then run a strip of masking tape along
the lower edge of the strip and the protruding wires. other
components can be put in sandwich bags and stapled in folders. The
bags can overlap as long as you can read the label written along the
top of the bag. A sharpie writes nicely on the plastic bags. The
folders can be put in a box and the file tabs make it easy to find
parts.

Even though I tend to quickly assemble kits it is just about a
necessity to sort the parts to be able to find things. So you might
as well inventory. =20
