[Elecraft] New K2 kit

Stan and all,

You CAN do the inventory 'board by board' (there are 2 bags for the RF board
and they must be done together). The downside to waiting to iinventory the
parts is that there is a lag time (about a week here on the East coast side)
for replacement parts to arrive and Elecraft would LIKE to ship everything
to you at one time - if you inventory everything first you will have all the
parts when they are needed.

I would like to mention a favorite sorting method the Tom Hammond N0SS and I
like (dates back to the old Heathkit days) - cut the kit shipping carton in
half (cut on the narrow side) making 2 trays. All the components with leads
can be placed (in value order) into the corrugated end 'holes' on the sides
with the larger parts arranged in the bottom of the tray. I find it easier
to grasp the correct part at assembly time than trying to 'fish' parts out
of a cup or muffin tin, but YMMV. I believe you can see a photo on Tom's
website - try www.qsl.net/n0ss first and if not there try the link to his
home site.

Another 'tool' for building is to review the information on the Elecraft
website www.elecraft.com Builder's Resource page, in particular those items
relating to construction techniques and the soldering tutorials by Tom
Hammond.

I just received my K2 kit s/n 4216 today. Elecraft recommends an
inventory of the kit. I figured I would inventory each bag as I needed it.
Looks like a daunting task to inventory the entire kit at once, and I really
would rather not open a bag unless I am starting the assembly of that
section, or need parts out of it as in the case of the Miscellaneous parts
bag. I have already discovered that C38 (Control board) is missing from my
inventory. My work/assembly bench is in the garage and I don't want any more
parts lying around unpackaged than is necessary. I can just see my cats
playing with the transistors and IC's.
