Hi Don and all,
I had some time today to test your theroy on the kat2 VRFDET loading
problem. What I have found is that if the antenna tuner is in the calP
or calS modes, the indicated power and the actual power are correct. In
the auto or alt modes the indicated power is low, about .26 mW. Since
changing the menu setting of the atu changes the reading and power
output (we tested in the calP mode) and the VRFDET line still connected
at the control board, it must be a firmware issue in the kat2 or main K2
firmware. When the remote atu is connected and detected, the mode is
switched to calP on the kat2 and the kat100 is used. The VRFDET line
hasn't moved and the 47 ohm R6 is still connected. If the line is still
connected it can't be an inpedance problem, can it? Maybe what is
needed is the atu to go to calP when Trn x is set to LP mode and return
to the previous setting when the band is changed out of the Tran x mode.
The KPA100 never places the atu in anything other than calP when it is
not found after the kat100 is selected at power up. (kat2 v is latest)
Does this make sense, Wayne?
