They are fine kits.  I think they meet or exceed the Heathkit standard.

And that is:  "Why doesn't Elecraft include printed circuit board trace diagrams in the manuals?"  Nearly every other kit maker does. 

Troubleshooting or planning circuit modification is GREATLY impeded by the lack of such basic information in the manual.  Even the simplest of mods can be difficult if you can't figure out where the PCB traces run and connect except by painstaking examination of the PCB.  If that PCB has been built, larger components can obsure traces.  I simply can not understand any kit's manual not having these diagrams.  With these diagrams Elecraft's otherwise outstanding manuals would be near perfect.

After having expressed this question several times on this list and in e-mail to Elecraft over the past four years, I have received no hint of an answer.
