Just a note to publicly say thank you to Gary Surrency for his patience =
and expertise. I am a new ham with no training in electronics. I built =
the K-1 in part to learn about radio theory. The kit went beautifully, =
until I had problems aligning it. Try as I might, I could not locate =
the problem. Gary to the rescue. After fixing a shorted coax jumper =
and making some fine adjustments, Gary returned a fantastic radio. I =
have been working (on novice 40m) as many states as I could, with all =
going smoothly. Then I lost all power, all functions and most joy when =
I tried to change bands, and heard a loud "pop" (?crash). I followed =
the do-it-yourself troubleshooting guide, but could not figure out =
how/why all leads to RF-Q7 were grounded. A few e-mails to Guru Gary, =
and TADA the culprit (D-19) was found. I am amazed that Gary seems to =
have this sixth sense and homed right in on D-19 as the problem. Truly, =
his voodoo is great. =20
