Chas,
Have read about and heard about, too many negative reports concerning switching power supplies. For a looong time I have used good old regulated power supplies from Astron.  Have tried others, but have always gone back to Astron. They are sturdy, exceed specifications and I have never experienced any hum.  I am using at present an RS-12A for VHF and a RS-35M for HF, especially for my K2/100 # 3443.  For my money this is the way to go.   And, as other reflector members have stated about other equipment, I have no official or financial  connections with Astron, except that of being a very satisfied user.
