If one brings the coaxial feedlines from two driven elements, let's say, two
40 meter loops that are an 1/8 wave apart, one has the potential of phasing
them, and aiming their directivity one way or the other.  Typically, this is
done by tuning for a null and then reversing directions.  The capacity is
put on one element and the inductance on the other.

such a device would have input for the transmitter, outputs for the two
elements.  It would have a tuning controlfor varying the L/C and a reversing
switch.

Seems to me this would be well within the capability of the ATU with
somewhat different software applied...

In practice, ANY two antennas could be phased with some degree of success.
