During the construction of the KAT2 option I encountered a minor problem.
I checked the archive and found that someone else had the same problem, but
there wasapparently no response to his request for help. I hope this message is
not an unneeded duplication.
On page 4, resistors R3, R4, and R5 were installed in the second
step. R6 is mentioned due to its similar color coding to R5, but it
is not installed in thi step.
Then on page 7, the figure shows the L-C and Control boards fitted together.
The figure shows the body of a resistor that is referred to as R6 from the text in
step 3. However, at this point in assembly, as noted above, R6 has not been
installed. The figure lead me to install the resistor assuming there was an
oversight in the earlier step.
But then on page 17, step 4, the voltage check produced a value well
below the suggested 3-4 volts. This was almost a show-stopper until I
noticed the next step calls for the installation of R6. So I lifted
one end of the resistor and got a suitable voltage reading (3.9v). I
resoldered R6 and everything went fine after that.
Suggested KAT2 Manual changes:
Page 4, step 2: Add the advisory "DO NOT INSTALL R6 UNTIL INSTRUCTED
TO DO SO DURING PRELIMINARY TESTING."
Page 7, step 3: Remove the misleading references to R6 from the text and the figure.
