The KX1 does an especially good job in this range if the KXB30 option is
installed--see my previous posting.

Your suggestions are interesting, but when I tested ranges beyond what I already
mentioned I found that the sensititivy had dropped off so far as to no longer be
that useful. The KX1 has narrow band-pass filters on all three bands. With the
exception of the re-resonating effect of the 30-m filter to provide 49-meter
coverage, SWL segments are subject to decreasing sensitivity as you tune away
from the ham bands.
Tuning below 5 MHz is problematic for another reason: this is so close to the
I.F. (4913) that image rejection becomes much worse.
