[Elecraft] KX1 and 5.9-6.4 MHz SWL band: KXB30 option recommended

Quit teasing all of us that have units on order and get them to
us......I've got my soldering station all warmed up and ready to go.

Just a little note, 2 members of our local club have K2's....and after
showing them at a club meeting had inquiries from members that have
never picked up a solder iron and what it takes to build a radio instead
of buying one. Well guess what, myself and another ham have started an
electronics/kit building class for our club. We have 12 members signed
up. We thought we'd start with something simple, inexpensive and
usable. We chose the TenTec Superhet receiver kit. The next move after
that is building an audio power amp and power supply for the receiver so
you don't need headphones. From there we hope to move them into the
more desirable Elecraft products.

It's about time we got this hobby back to its roots and got away from
being "Appliance Operators".

Subject: [Elecraft] KX1 and 5.9-6.4 MHz SWL band: KXB30 option
recommended

The 30-m option for the KX1 has two useful functions now, thanks to
recent
firmware changes.

The KXB30 module's primary use is to allow operation on the 30-m band.
But it
can also be used to significantly improve reception in the lowest SWL
band
segment covered by the KX1 (49 meters, or about 5.9 to 6.4 MHz).

If you have 40 m selected and tune the VFO below about 6.7 MHz, the KX1
will
automatically enable the KXB30, re-resonating the 40 m band-pass filter
at 6.2
MHz. This dramatically improves both the sensitivity and image rejection
of the
KX1 when tuning in this range.

Wayne
