Good lord, I wasn't ADVOCATING this!  I was responding to a guy who said 
the KAT100 couldn't match a line with a 50:1 SWR, who was responding to 
an earlier message in which I said that it could be advantageous to have 
a tuner at the feedpoint of an antenna when otherwise the SWR on the 
coax would be quite high!

I also mentioned open-wire lines as a solution to the problem of feeding 
an antenna on a difficult frequency (e.g., a dipole at twice the 
resonant frequency) and mentioned the main disadvantage thereof -- the 
need for a balanced tuner.

I think I'll just take a vacation from trying to be helpful for a while.
