Subject: [Elecraft] KX1 paddle
Please elaborate on the paddle. =20
* How does it "make contact"=20
* How is it adjusted for spacing and tension?
* Would the plastic covering for the finger touch be
replaceable with =
homje made materials, so polished wood or other?
I only saw it for a while, back in July, but here's
what I remember: Each half of the paddle is a rigid
piece of, probably, aluminum. Each has a thin sheet of
metal sticking out a bit from the rigid part, on the
outsides. The springiness of this thin sheet, sticking
out, is what provides the tension to keep the contacts
open. Over all this is slid a thick plastic sleeve,
which brings the two into proximity, yet is flexible.
Pressure on the outsides of the paddle causes the
contact, inside the sleeve. Therefore, I think the
flexibility of the cover is a functional part of the
paddle, and can't be replaced by any stiff material.
