I had the same thoughts when I first saw it, and the pricing.

First off, it would be a huge mistake to stop making the K1,
and I doubt Elecraft even considers that.=20

So to me, the main advantage of the KX1 is portability. Even
though the K1 is not that big, hiking for miles with one may
be an issue. The KX1 is made for hiking...I think that is going
to be the main attraction.=20

There are some of us who will buy an Elecraft birdfeeder kit just=20
because it's an Elecraft product. So there will be a swell of
initial KX1 sales for that reason, surely.

However I see the KX1 settling into its own niche fairly quickly:
- hiking radio
- bedroom radio
- bicycle mobile radio
- velcro-to-your-belt-with-Hamstick-held-someplace-else radio :-)

I am really impressed that Elecraft continues to progress as=20
far as compromises go - here again they've come out with a kit
which contains pre-mounted SMD components. This opens doors to
keeping the technology current, yet still maintain a kit experience.

Since I have a K1, I don't necessarily want one -- however I'd
love to TRY one. Anyone want me to build one for them?
