 They are very different designs so far as I can tell from the limited info.

o DDS freq control of the KX1 gives full band (even out of band) tuning; 
K1 cannot

o K1 can cover 4 bands (vs. 3 on the KX1)

o K1 does have NB; do not know re the KX1

o K1 has a speaker; none in the KX1 I suspect

o K1 can go to 6+ Watts; the KX1 seems limited to 4 W (not a big deal)

Wayne has put a "Lightweight Transceiver Comparison" table at the web 
site. Perhaps the K1 does not fit into his definition of "lightweight". 
 But it would still be nice to see it added to the table.

For the dedicated lightweight backpacker, the KX1 has definite appeal. 
 For camping the K1 is just fine (and also fine for "go heavy" backpackers.

I see the KX1 as competing with the SST and DSW (which are single band 
rigs), not with the K1.  But time will tell.
